In Moncrabeau, a French village close to Agen, Pinocchio would certainly not have had a long nose. In the 18th century, the inhabitants got used to telling lies, sitting on a big stony armchair, located in the village square. The story goes back to the 100 years war. At that period the news could not reach Moncradeau anymore. Therefore the official responsible for the news started telling fantastic stories he had made up. Since then the Liars Brotherhood organise each year the liars day. A dozen of participants take turns on the stony armchair, trying to tell the biggest lie. The 40 members of the brotherhood, dressed with ceremonial suits, give credits according to the lie truthfulness. The best story teller will get the liar’s trophy and some bottles of Armagnac.
